Once upon a time, a lonely girl met a bass player from Craigslist. After seedy, late-night meetings in a downtown art gallery, a band was born. Upon obtaining more members from the street, and drinking nights away at the local Goth bar, the name, “Adam’s Evil,” was strewn on a napkin. Many men came and went, and the girl carried on, searching for “The Ones.” In late 2009, the final four went into the wilderness to record its debut album, “Play Me,” a crazy mash-up of highs and lows, now available on Itunes, CDBaby, Amazon and at their live shows. Ya’ dig?

Adam’s Evil could be called many things— post-punk revival, alternative grunge, rock and pop (which we will never admit.) The raspy vocals of Sarah Deathriage which have been compared to Kate Piersen and Siouxsie Sioux, will definitely keep Adam’s Evil a stand-out from the local Phoenix rock scene. You are compelled to listen while the guitar sings high as Mouse strokes its gilded strings— seduced by the bass drone as Kris anticipates the rhythm— mesmerized as the drums boom and crack at Kerry's command. I don’t know much about music, but I do know this music is swift, driving, and just when you think it’s going to mellow, the chorus smashes in, and blows its load all over your mind. I implore you to see them live, and see for yourself just what IS Adam's Evil.

Who knew 2010 would be the year?

Kris Hanson
Instrument: Bass
Gear: My main bass is an Ernie Ball Music Man Sterling HS 4-string, but I also occasionally play a Sterling HH 5-string, a Stingray, and a Warwick Corvette Double Buck. For amplification I use a Gallien-Krueger 1001RB-II amp with Gallien-Krueger 410RBX and 115RBX cabinets. I have a bunch of effects, but for the most part I either use a Big Muff or a Fulltone Mosfet Bassdrive for some occasional distortion.
Influences: Cliff Burton, Nirvana, Black Flag, Shannon Wright, Godspeed You Black Emperor!, A Silver Mt Zion, Switchblade Symphony, Tori Amos, Bikini Kill, Heavens to Betsy, Tool, and Alan Watts.
Random Thing About Me: I am a Libra, born and raised in Arizona. I started playing bass after hearing the raw intensity of the Riot Grrrl punk movement of the early '90s. After the nail polish wore off, I found my way through a couple of bands and eventually ended up in the garage of Adam's Evil. When I was a kid I played an insane amount of Nintendo, to the point where I compiled a list of over 100 games that I beat. And last but not least, I have a chicken tattoo.
